Vernetta Eileen Loria

Vernetta Eileen Loria (Eileen) was born April 12, 1924 in Oakland, Maryland. Eileen passed on August 25, 2014 at her home she made with daughter Lucinda and son-in-law Carl Kutsko. Born to Otis Wesley and Dortha Bessie (Hamstead) Fike she spent her childhood on the family farm in Oakland. The family moved to Morgantown, West Virginia where Eileen attended high school, entered college at the age of 16 and attended Medical School at the University of West Virginia. While a student in medical school, Eileen met and married Louis Amadea Loria, M.D. on June 17, 1945. They made their home in Bristolville, Ohio where Louis practiced medicine, and they raised their four daughters, Linda Louise Loria, Lucinda Lois (Cindy) Kutsko, Carol Jean (Jean) Loria and Peggy Sue Loria. Eileen was recognized as a community leader, actively participating on numerous committees and boards of directors at the regional, state and national levels. Most notable was the Bristol Local School, Bristol United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Medical Auxiliary where she served as Ohio State President, and the Bristol Public Library where she served as president during the construction of the library addition. Eileen was a gracious hostess, entertaining friends and church groups at her home. Being a talented flower arranger won her many blue ribbons. She enjoyed bowling with friends on a league. She was a scholar especially interested in the study of psychology, religion and spirituality. Using her talent as an educator, Eileen was a strong advocate for human rights and equality for all people, believing and affirming the connection of all beings. She modeled for her family and community the qualities of compassion, forgiveness and unconditional love. Eileen leaves daughters Linda, Lucinda, Jean and son-in-law, Carl Kutsko; brother, Robert Fike M.D.; grandsons, Seku Shabazz (Michele), Madison Brooks (Jacquline), Michael Kutsko (Jennifer); great grandchildren Gabriel Kurtycz , Madaline Brooks, McKenzie Brooks, Aubrey Kutsko and Dylan Kutsko; great-great grandchild Bryson Hanslik. Eileen was predeceased by her husband Louis, daughter Peggy, brother Darl Fike, and sister Annalee Reid. Funeral Services are Friday, August 29 at the Bristol United Methodist Church in Bristolville, Ohio, 44402 at routes 45 and 88. Calling hours are from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the church.
