Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday in the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for Vernon M. Carr, 90, who died Monday afternoon at North Side Hospital. He was born October 13, 1919 in Youngstown, a son of Albert and Annabell (Schrock) Carr, and he resided in this area all of his life. He attended Chaney High School and he worked as a riveter on the assembly line for Youngstown Steel Door for 40 years before retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp, building roads and bridges for several years. He enjoyed listening to music and he was a train enthusiast. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Alma E. Macchione, whom he married December 28, 1944. He also leaves behind two daughters; Vivian (Raymond) Albrecht of Youngstown and Linda Davis of Austintown; two grandchildren; Stacey (Robert) Susor of Strongsville and David Davis of Austintown; a great grandson Aiden Robert Susor; a brother-in-law John Kurtz of Boardman; several nieces and nephews; and very special friends Harry and Doris Smith of Lynchburg, Va. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Max and Kenneth Carr. Vernon’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Austinwoods Nursing Center’s Rehab and Alzheimer’s Units for all of the kind and compassionate care he received. Friends may call from 5-7pm Friday evening at the funeral home.
