Vesta Adell Higley

Vesta Adell Higley, age 99, passed away on Monday, September 9th, 2013. Vesta was born on April 19, 1914 to the late Stella Lawrence and Samuel H. Wolf in Trumbull County, Ohio and was a lifetime area resident. She attended Braceville High School and Bliss Business College in Columbus. Vesta had worked as a secretary for several business executives in Warren and was the supervisor of the admitting office at Warren General Hospital, retiring after 10 years in 1975. Vesta married her late husband, Ned H. Higley, on November 20, 1940. Vesta was a 65 year member of the Morning Light Chapter #80 OES, with a dual membership in Opal Chapter #181 OES (served as past Worthy Matron of both), Progress Court #22 Order of Amaranth in Niles (Past Royal Matron), Trinity White Shrine of Jerusalem #42, Pythian Sisters #185, 3 time past President of the Trumbull County Easter Seals Auxillary, Past President of 50 Plus Club at Central Christian Church, was a member of the Cortland Homemaker Society and Warren Republican Womens Club, Past President of the Cortland Jr. Liberty Guild and volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Services. Vesta was also a member of the Howland United Methodist Church and served as past President of the Womens Society, was a former church board member and member of the "Cheers" group. Vesta is survived by her daughter, Ruth Higley of Austin, Texas; a brother, Earl Wolf of Southington, Ohio; son-in-law, William Bretnall of Avon Lake and many nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews and many great-great nieces and nephews. Vesta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 39 years, Ned H. Higley; a daughter, Dorothy H. Bretnall and 6 sisters and 2 brothers. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Howland United Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m. Calling hours will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church prior to services. The Order of the Eastern Star, Morning Light Chapter #80 OES will conduct a service in Vesta's honor at 11:15am. Burial will be at Braceville Township Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren.
