Viola Engle

Mrs. Viola "Vi" Engle, age 86, of Frostburg, Maryland passed away Tuesday evening, April 1, 2008 at the Assisted Living at Frostburg Village. She was formerly of Beechcrest Street N.W. in Warren and of Oregon, OH. She was born April 16, 1921 in Markleton, PA the daughter of the late William W. and Irene McVay Romesburg. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Vi's children were the highlight of her life. She enjoyed being a cub scout leader, Bible school teacher, costume maker and cake decorator. She also encelled in needlepoint and cross stitch. In fact, Vi's most memorable moments were family centered and she was never happier than when her family gathered together. While in Warren, Vi was a charter member of the Church of the Good Shepherd (now Covenant Presbyterian Church) and participated in building the new church from the ground up. After her children were grown, she worked in the Warren City School system. She moved with her husband, Eli to Crystal Beach, Fla. in 1972 and then to Oregon, Ohio in 1986. After her husband passed away in 1994, Vi enjoyed her volunteer work at St. Charles-Mercy Hospital gift shop where she made many friends. Vi was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Elijah I. Engle, whom she married September 18, 1942; 4 brothers, Paul, Jim, Glenn and Roger and 4 sisters, Ethel, Olive, Hazel and Alice. She is survived by her children, David (Donna) of Hagerstown, MD; Carol (David) Waltz of Hillside, Colo. and Gary (Gloria) of Union, OH; two grandchildren, Stephannie (Francois) Brajot of Taipei, Taiwan and Aaron (Amanda) Menough of Sebring, Fla. and beloved great grandchildren, Anatole and Salome' Brajot and Savannah Grace Menough. Viola lived a noble life filled with appreciation for nature, music and learning. She was compassionate and nurturing. Her beautiful smile and captive brown eyes will always be remembered, but more than anything else her legacy is one of unconditional love, support and encouragement for her children, and her life example sets the highest of standards for mothers everywhere. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel in Warren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 7, 2008, at 11 am at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2050 Oakdale St. N.W. in Warren. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Vienna.
