Kook of 3495 Ridge Rd., Cortland, Ohio, died Friday (2-24-2006) at home after an extended illness. He was 83. Mr. Kook was born in Warren, Ohio on October 27, 1922, a son of John and Mary (Tymchuck) Kook. He served our country in the Merchant Marines and he was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Vienna, Ohio. Walter retired as a machine assembler for Taylor-Winfield, Warren, Ohio. In his spare time, he enjoyed carpentry, camping, and he especially loved spending time with his great-grandchildren. Survivors include: wife, Julia (Haluschack) Kook, whom he married November 9, 1944; 2 children, Joanne Brooks & her husband Ronald, Howland, Ohio, Joseph Kook & his wife Rita, with whom his parent’s made their home; sister, Rosie Gerchack, Howland, Ohio; 3 brothers, Tony Kook, Warren, Ohio, Stanley Kook, Bazetta, Ohio, and John Kook, Bear, Delaware; 5 grandchildren, Tami Caldwell, Amy Kook, Gregory Brooks, Jennifer Graham & Cheryl Kook; and 9 great-grandchildren, Brett, Bryan, Alex, Nicholas, Mackenzie, Edward, Arianna, Joseph & Julia. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Glenn Kook; his great-granddaughter, Tiffany Kook; his sisters, Helen Bogolin & Anne Strohmeyer; and his brothers, Frank Cook (correct spelling) & Joseph Kook. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Vienna. Calling hours will be 4-7 PM Monday at the Madasz Funeral Chapel, Brookfield.
