Warren G. Bolin, 86, of Howland Twp. died 5:00 PM Monday Jan.19, 2009 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital following a short illness. He was born June 11, 1922 in Niles the son of Frank James and Ethel (Chasser) Bolin. Warren is the last male descendant of a pioneer Howland Twp. family. His great great great grandfather Pactrict Bolin came to America in 1762 from Scotland and settled in Pennsylvania. His great great grandfather acquired 270 acres of land for the Bolin farm in Howland Twp. in 1850 and his great grandfather James became the owner of the Bolin home in Howland in1861. The Bolins were successful farmers and had large apple and peach orchards. This area of Howland Twp. is still known as the Bolin hill and Bolindale. Warren was a 1940 graduate of Howland High School where he played baseball and basketball. An excellent athlete he was a baseball prospect for the Cleveland Indians before enlisting in the US Army during WW II. He served with the 80th Signal Co. in Northern France, the Rhineland, Central Europe, and the Ardennes attaining the rank of sergeant. He received the good conduct medal, the distinguished unit award, the meritorious unit award, the American Theater Campaign medal, WWII Victory medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal with 4 bronze stars. He received a Presidential Citation "for action during the period 25thto 28th December 1944 and participation in the attack against the enemy encircling Bastogne, Belgium". After being discharged from the Army, Warren returned to his job at Packard Electric where he worked for 38 years retiring in 1982. He loved sports, fishing, and animals-especially feeding the wild birds. He was raised in the Nazarene faith. His wife, Mildred (Manning) Bolin whom he married June 4, 1949 preceded him in death Feb.3, 2001. Also preceding him in death were 2 sisters Olive Liebert, Mary Louise Hosterman, and a brother James Ernest Bolin. He is survived by a daughter Julia S. Bolin of Howland Twp., and 2 sisters Kittie Elizabeth Stein of Englewood, FL, and Candace Jane (John) Gladd of Cortland. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday Jan.23, 2009 at Roberts-Clark Chapel where friends will be received for 1 hour prior to the service. Rev. Dr. Brian Byrne will officiate. Interment will be in Niles City Cemetery. Military honors will be observed at the funeral home by American Legion Post 540. The family suggests material contributions be made to Animal Welfare League 545 Brunstetter Rd. SW Warren, OH 44481.
