Mr. Jones was born June 7, 1925 in Chickasaw, PA., a son of Benjamin and Edna Hawk Jones. He was a graduate of Homer City High School. Following high school, he went to work briefly with his father in the coal mines of Pennsylvania. During WWII Wendell served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. He was a radio-man first class aboard the LSM 40 (Landing Ship Medium), making 24 D-Day landings. After the war, Wendell attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and later attended YSU. Earlier in his career he worked for Burdett Oxygen Co. of Cleveland, working his way up to vice president and national sales manager.
