Wilbert "Bill" F. Palette

July 8, 1929 — December 31, 2012

Wilbert (Bill) Floyd Palette, age 83, a long-time resident of Vienna, formerly of Warren and Howland townships, went to his eternal home on New Year's Eve surrounded by his loved ones and his parish priest at his home from a ruptured thoracic aortic aneurysm. He miraculously survived five days after the initial rupture to say goodbye to his family and friends. He received the sacrament of extreme unction and the apostolic blessing prior to his death. Bill was the son of the late Marie Elizabeth (Miller) and John William Palette, formerly of Howland. He graduated from Howland High School in 1947. He was united in marriage with Elaine Bogden on July 20, 1968 at St. Patrick's Church, Youngstown, Ohio. Bill retired from Packard Electric in 1997 after 46 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Navy as part of the special forces of the Underwater Demolition Team 3 ("Frogmen"), precursor to today's Navy Seals. He participated in Operation Fishnet and a special recovery mission of a group of U.S. armed forces. He received the National Defense Service Ribbon, China Service Ribbon, Korean Service Ribbon and the United Nations Service Ribbon. Bill was a former member of the John F. Roach Society. He attended daily mass for over 50 years and was an alter server for much of that time. Bill also volunteered to clean his parish church for nearly 30 years. Bill enjoyed card games, spending time with his family including vacationing, woodworking, gardening, playing checkers, reading, praying the rosary, swimming and taking care of his grandchildren. He was known for giving his time, money and services to anyone who needed it. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Gladys, Bob, Jimmy, Johnny; his sister-in-law Loleta Palette; his friend and priest Reverend John F. Roach; and his best man and friend Bob Hordoyski. He is survived by his wife, sister June Rausch, brother Ralph (Barbara), and his sister-in-laws Joan and Loretta Palette. His seven children: Steven (Linda) Palette, Timothy (Tammy) Palette, Mary (Gregory) Hall, Theresa (Andrew) Platt, Regina (Mark) Kren, Joan (John) Henderson, and Joseph Palette. His nineteen grandchildren: John, Lincoln, Taylor, Olivia, Cameron, Tyler, Ethan, Tabitha, Trista, Calista, Carson, Anastasia, Anderson, Landon, Aurora, Emma, Braedon, Rieser, John Jaxen and a twentieth grandchild on the way. As well as many loved nieces and nephews and godchildren. He also has one surviving cousin Dorothy DeMars. Requiem Mass will be held at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church by Father Denis G. Bouchard, FSSP at 11:00 AM. Calling hours will be held from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to the Mass. A rosary service will be prayed begining at 10:30AM. Burial will be at the Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel.
