Wilbert Lewis of Cortland, OH., died at 10:45 PM Monday at Northside Hospital.. He was 90. Mr. Lewis was born in Niles, OH on April 16, 1916, a son of Daniel and Margaret Dennis Lewis. He was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School. He served in the United State Army during World War II. He was in the European Theater under General Patton. Wilbert was employed at Mullin’s as a press operator for over 20 years. He then went on to work for Packard Electric as a wire cutter for 17 years. Mr. Lewis had a passion for music, from singing to playing trombone. He also loved golf and shooting. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. His wife, Hilda Schroyer Lewis, whom he married Dec. 20, 1941, died in June of 1998. Survivors include: 3 children, Grace Lewis of Warren, OH, John and his wife Connie Lewis of Niles, OH, and Dianne and her husband Mike Stroble of Richmond Point, CA.; 3 siblings, Elsie Ellis of Houston, TX, Elizabeth DeChant of Girard, OH, and Robert Lewis of Niles, OH; 4 grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer, and Joshua Lewis, and Mathew Stroble; 2 great grandchildren, Emma and Andrew Lewis. He was preceded in death by: his parents; 7 siblings, Hanna, Evan, Brinley, Herbert, Raymond, Kenneth, and Daniel Lewis. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Saturday at the Lane Funeral Home – Niles Chapel 415 Robbins Ave., with Rev. Henry Pearce pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Niles. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Crown Hill Burial Park.
