William Boyer

Services will be 10 am Saturday in Mahoning United Methodist Church for William B. Boyer, 75 of Austintown who passed away Tuesday evening in Austinwoods Care Center. Bill was born June 18, 1930 in Youngstown the son of Joseph and Eva “Sally” (LaBolle) Boyer. He was a 1948 graduate of Chaney High School, the Ohio School of Banking at Ohio University, the Installment Credit School at Kent State and the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. Bill was a member of the church and served as its treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and usher. Bill was the Vice President of the Dollar Savings and Trust Company where he was in charge of the Consumer Loan Department, and previously managed the Lake Park and Hubbard branches of the bank, retiring in 1992. He was also the Austintown Township Clerk from 1968 to 1992, the longest serving township clerk in the history of the township. Bill was formerly the president of Credit Reporting Services and treasurer and executive committee member of the Mahoning and Shenango Health Network. He served as secretary of the Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital, a board member of the Ohio Osteopathic Foundation, and a board member for 25 years of PHD Manufacturing of Columbiana, Ohio. Bill was a former president of the Mahoning Valley Campfire Girls and Boys, and also served on the board of the Lake to River Girl Scout Council. A former member of the American Bankers Association, the advisory board of the Retail and Consumer Credit Council, as well as a past president pf the Austintown Optimist Club. Bill spent 2 years in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army and was a graduate of the Army Finance School in St. Louis. He previously taught classes for the American Institute of Banking at Youngstown State University, and served as honorary Heart Chairman for Austintown Township in 1985. Bill was a 32nd degree Mason with the Wick Lodge. Bill leaves his wife the former Pat Elder whom he married September 29, 1951, three daughters Sharon Boyer of Senoia, Georgia, Sue (Kalman) Boyer-Adorjan of Austintown, and Kelli (Richard) DeSantis of Lewis Center, Ohio. 6 grandchildren; Michael (Lauren) Connors, Kevin (Kristin) Connors and Greg Connors, and Rick, Jennifer, and Michael DeSantis and one great granddaughter McKenzie Connors. Besides his parents, Bill is preceded in death by a sister Donna Boyer. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 pm Friday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel were a Masonic service will take place at 7:45 pm.
