William C. Gorsky

William C. Gorsky of Austintown, passed away at 6:52 a.m. Sunday, December 05, 2010 in his home. He was 88 years old. Mr. Gorsky was born on September 6, 1922 in Youngstown, Ohio the son of the late William and Julia (Mika) Gorsky and was a 1940 graduate of South High School. Mr. Gorsky retired in 1982 from General Fireproofing where he worked for over 40 years as an assembler and repairman. A veteran of the Army Aircorp, Mr. Gorsky served overseas during World War II. For his service to his country, Mr. Gorsky was decorated and cited with the EAME Theater Ribbon with seven bronze stars and the Good Conduct Ribbon. Mr. Gorsky was honorably discharged on October 8, 1945 with the rank of Sergant. Mr. Gorsky was a former member of Holy Name Church in Youngstown and was currently a member of St. Christine Church in Youngstown. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed a good western book. He enjoyed eating chocolates and doing word searches. Mr. Gorsky was a Western and World War II movie buff and enjoyed attending the Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club with his siblings and the Friday Morning Breakfast Club with the General Fireproofing Retirees, where they would reminisce about their hobbies and families. Mr. Gorsky especially enjoyed his family and the time he shared with his grandchildren. Mr. Gorsky was married on January 18, 1947 to the former Mary A. Dobranchin and they spent 53 years of marriage until her passing on May 7, 2000. Mr. Gorsky is survived by five children, William C. (Linda) Gorsky of Silver Plume, CO, Marcia A. (James) Streeky with whom he made his home, Kathleen M. (Arthur "Buzz") Shutt of Austintown, Julianne C. (James) Grossman of Stella, NC and Christine M. (Donald) Kochera of Austintown; an aunt Stella Mika of Youngstown; a brother John Gorski of Boardman; a sister Joanne (George) Lawrence of Pulaski, PA; eleven grandchildren Lauren Partch, Heather (Carmen) Costantino, Loralynn (Matthew) Perkins, Jennifer, Donn and Matthew Streb, Sarah (Josh) Allen, Samantha (Leo) Gressick and Christopher, Kellie and Katie Kochera; and six great grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, Mary, Mr. Gorsky was preceded in death by a brother George Gorski and two sisters Ann Vargo and Julianna Gorski. Calling hours for Mr. Gorsky will take place on Thursday, December 9, 2010 from 5 until 8 PM in the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave, Austintown, Ohio 44515. A Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Msgr. David W. Rhodes officiating, will take place on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Christine Church, 3165 S. Schenley Ave, Youngstown, Ohio 44511, preceded by closing prayers to be recited at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home prior in leaving for the church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donation's in Mr. Gorsky's name to either Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St, Boardman, Ohio, 44512 or to the Fellow Riverside Gardens.
