William D. Bjorson

WILLIAM D. BJORSON, 93 CANFIELD-There will be a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Boardman for William D. Bjorson, 93, who went to be with his Lord and Savior at his home early Monday morning with his wife and son by his side. Bill was born Nov. 19, 1923 in Youngstown, a son of David E. and Anna V. Isaacson Bjorson. He was a 1942 graduate of South High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army 11th Airborne Parachute Infantry, serving three years, two years in the Pacific Theatre of Operation and was discharged December of 1945 in Japan. In 1946, Bill enrolled at Kent State University to study Architecture. He then transferred to Youngstown College to study Civil Engineering. Bill was employed with Adolf Johnson & Son Co., then transferred to Jos. Bucheit & Son as a superintendent for the next 20 years, which included a vast amount of travel in the U.S. and then 8 years as projects manager in Saudi Arabia, retiring in 1986. Bill was a lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church, having served 12 years on the church council and several years as an assistant youth guidance leader. He was also a member of the Mens Early Morning Bible Study for 25 years. Bill was the supervisor for Adolf Johnson & Son on the construction of the church sanctuary addition and worked on many maintenance projects over the years. Bill was always kind and generous with his time and talents to help family, friends and his community. Bill and his wife Arlene enjoyed traveling. They toured throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia and most recently Israel. The trips with family and visiting with them were the most special. They were also avid dancers, belonging to several dance clubs, including the Colony Dance Club. Bill was also a member of Argus Lodge, No. 545 F. & AM and a 50 year member of Carpenters Union, Local 171. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, the former Arlene M. Burkman, whom he married Sept. 2, 1948; his sons, David W. (Nancy) Bjorson of Gulf Breeze, FL and Jeffery C. Bjorson of Canfield; his brother, Charles A. (Ramona) Bjorson of Rockville, MD; his sister, Shirley Abernathy of Painesville; his grandchildren, Kristian (Sherri) Bjorson, Tracy (David) Rowe, Jason (Jennifer) Bjorson, Brooke (Jack) Frampton, Brein (Mike) Marzano, Barett Bjorson, Kristofer Bjorson and Laura (Ryder) Curry; 16 gr. grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son, Brian L. Bjorson and his granddaughter, Jennifer Lee Bjorson. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, prior to the Service at the Church. Memorial contributions in Bill's name, may be given to Bethel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 425 Crestview Dr. Yo., OH 44512. Arrangements are by Lane Family Funeral Homes-Anstrom Chapel.
