William Floyd Cratsley

October 8, 1922 — March 7, 2015

Brookfield William Floyd Cratsley Sr., 92, of Brookfield, Ohio passed away peacefully at O'Brien Memorial Healthcare on March 7, 2015 after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. William was born in Hubbard, Ohio on October 8, 1922 to Floyd and Rachel Cratsley. He attended Hubbard High School and later married his childhood sweetheart Helen Shallop. Soon after, he left to serve WWII on the pacific island of Saipan, obtaining the rank of sergeant. His family is proud to honor him as a member of "The Greatest Generation", and his service to his country. William enjoyed a lifelong career as a carpenter where he leaves behind many homes and other projects that utilized his well honed skills. His legacy will live on for generations including the family home he built. Survivors include his five children, Janet (Tom) Scott, Philipsburg, PA, Donna Ischo, Canton, OH, Shirley (Joe) Surgenavic, New Castle, PA, Patty Mills, Masury, OH, and William Cratsley Jr. (Debbie), Brookfield, OH; 11 granchildren, David (Michelle) Scott, Stephen (Cassandra) Scott, Matthew (Jessica) Scott, Suzanne (Curt) Dixon, Bryan (Nancy) Ischo, Heather Germadnik, Julie and Joey Surgenavic, Melissa (Mark) Sydlowski, Becky Patton, Chris (Melissa) Mills, 19 great-grandchildren, a loving niece Karen (Rich) Lilly, and a lifelong friend Robert Notman. In addition to his wife Helen, he was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mildred Fileger, and recently his beloved dog and companion Katie. The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring, and compassionate caregivers of Hospice of the Valley and the staff at O'brien Memorial Health Care. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Valle, 5190 Market St. Youngstown, OH 44512 or the Animal Welfare League, 545 Brunstetter Rd., Warren, OH 44481 Although, there will be no calling hours, his children take comfort in knowing that he has left his earthly home, to join in heaven his beloved wife Helen.together again.
