William H. Johnson, 82, of Howland Twp. died Wednesday May 7, 2008 at St. Josephs Health Care Center following a brief illness. He was born Sept.6, 1925 in Painesville, OH the son of Earl H. and Helena (Nichols) Johnson. An area resident for most of his life, Mr. Johnson was a 1943 graduate of Greene High School. After high school he served in the US Army for 3 years with the 278 Combat Engineers Battalion. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater ribbon with 3 bronze stars, the good conduct medal and WW II Victory medal. Bill was employed for 33 years as a crane operator at Republic Steel retiring in 1985. He was a member of VFW Post 2064 in Niles, and he enjoyed carpentry, woodworking, golf, bowling, playing baseball and basketball. Two of his favorite activities were playing cards and traveling to Las Vegas. He was of the Lutheran faith. His wife, Shirlee A. Johnson whom he married July 29, 1967 preceded him in death June 8, 2004. He also was preceded in death by 3 brothers Earl, Russell, and Robert and a sister Harriett Szabo. Survivors include daughter Deborah (Chuck) Wilmouth of Howland Twp., a son Michael W. (Penny) Johnson of Warren, a granddaughter Stephanie Johnson of Warren and a brother Dale Johnson of Kinsman. Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday May 10, 2008 at Roberts-Clark Chapel where friends will be received from 6-8 Friday. Pastor Bill Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in Sager Memorial Cemetery.
