Austintown- Funeral services will be held 11 AM. Wed. at the Lane Funeral Home-Austintown Chapel for William J. Bowser age 87 of 151 Parkgate Ave. who died Friday afternoon at his home. Bill was born Sept. 20, 1916 in Youngstown and was the son of Samuel and Dora (Williams) Bowser. He retired in 1975 from the I.R.S. as an agent after 35 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in McDonald, was one of the founders and organizers of Boy Scout Troop #84 of Austintown in 1928. Bill was Scout Master and Program Director with the troop until 1993 after serving 65 years and had received the Silver Beaver Award for Scouting in 1950. He was also awarded Austintown Outstanding Citizen of the Year for service to the community in Feb. of 1965. Bill leaves his wife Sylvia Eileen (Cox) Bowser whom he married October 19, 1942 and had just celebrated 61 years of marriage. He also leaves three sons, Bryan R. (Rosina) Bowser of Canfield, Pastor Gregory C. (Evelyn) Bowser of Tracy, Calif., Barry W. Bowser of Olustee, FL, two sisters Marilyn Davis of Columbiana, Betty Roberds of Silver Springs, MD, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Maxine Moore. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 PM Tuesday and 1 hour prior to services on Wed.. The family requests that material contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley.
