William R Derr

October 8, 1934 — December 30, 2010

William R. "Bill" Derr, 76, of Southington passed away Thursday Dec. 30, 2010 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 8, 1934 in Warren the son of Harry and Alfer (Robanke) Derr. Bill graduated from Warren G. Harding High School where he was valedictorian and attended Ohio University. He worked as an engineer for VanHuffel Tube, Sawhill Tubular, and Sharon Custom Metal retiring in 2009. Bill's passion was physical fitness. He was a runner, competing in many races and he also participated in numerous handball and racquetball tournaments. Bill led his "high gear" fitness class at the Warren YMCA for 50 years and was honored to have known generations of families. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He will be sadly missed by his wife Cindy whom he married April 13, 1973, and 5 children; Steve (Sue) Derr of Southington, Pam Pasi (Marc) of Boiling Springs, PA, David Derr of Warren, Jeff (Judy) Derr of Carlisle, PA and Chelsie Derr (JJ) of Hilliard, OH. He also leaves a brother Richard of Stillwater, Minn., father-in-law Ron Heames of Howland, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. The family would like to extend thanks to Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital and The Hope Center for their compassion and care. There will be a memorial service 7:00 PM Monday Jan. 3, 2011 at Roberts-Clark Chapel where friends will be received from 4pm until service time. The Rev. Glenn Hamilton will officiate. Per Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests material contributions be made to the Warren YMCA 210 High St. NW Warren, OH 44481 in Bill's memory.
