William S. Kasanicky

Kasanicky, 85, of Warren passed away in his sleep Tuesday March 18, 2008 at White Oak Manor in Warren following an extended illness. Bill was born Feb.5, 1923 in Leechburg, PA the son of Louis and Catherine (Csobdy) Kasanicky. He graduated from Leechburg High School and in Dec. of 1942 he joined the US Army Air Corps. He participated in numerous campaigns including the D-Day invasion of Normandy. His decorations included the Distinguished Unit Badge, the American Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 bronze stars and the WW 2 Victory Medal. He was discharged in 1945 as a sergeant. After the war he was a watchmaker for several jewelry stores in the Warren area for over 50 years. Bill was a member of St. James Church of Warren and a long time member of BPO Elks 295 where he served as Exalted Ruler in 1975-76. He also enjoyed woodworking, golf, and bowling. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary (Grajczar) Kasanicky whom he married June 29 1945, daughters Frances (John) Julian of Hamilton, OH, Christine Kasanicky of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, a son David (Lynda) Kasanicky of Cincinnati, OH, 4 grandchildren; Brian, Brad, Nicky, Jennifer, 3 great grandchildren Mackenzie, Riley, Trent, and a brother Pete (Elizabeth) Kasanicky of Leechburg, PA. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers. There are no calling hours and a private memorial service will be at a later date. The family requests material contributions be made to the St. James Church Restoration Fund 2532 Burton St. SE Warren, OH 44484. Roberts-Clark Chapel handled the arrangements.
