William V. Rice

Vallie W. Rice God took Vallie home on November 8, 2007. He was born October 30, 1922 in Kinport, Pa. the son of the late Jess and Emma (Davis) Rice. Vallie was a former member of Masury United Methodist Church and a member of the Sons of Norway. He was a retired steel worker from Sharon Steel in Sharon, PA. He served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII achieving the rank of Tech 5. He was stationed in New Caledonia and Luzon and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Medals, a Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. He loved to play guitar, sing and laugh. His motto for life, “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Survivors include his loving wife of 10 years, Kari Kalsto Rice, who he married on November 29, 1997; four sons, Larry (Joann) Rice and Henry (Elaine) Rice both of Lordstown, OH, Dennis (Kathleen) Rice of Parma, OH and Daniel (Dorothy) Rice of Northfield Center, OH; three daughters, Jean Rice of Hubbard, OH, Delores (Jose) Vega of Melbourne, FL and Doris (Harlan) Dick of Yorkville, IL; stepchildren, Tammy (Joe) Barry of Yorkville, IL, Eva (Bob) Potocnic of Yorkville, Art (Nancy) Kalsto of Serena, Ben (Mary Ann) Kalsto of Montgomery, IL and Karen (Harry) Robb of Minooka, IL; a sister, Fannie (Paul) Laney of Penn Run, PA; a brother, John (Althea) Rice of Masury, OH; 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and many step grandchildren. His first wife Edna R. Rice, a daughter Carol Webster, great-grandchildren, Jessie and Toby Rice preceded him in death. A celebration of his life will be held at 1 PM at the Masury United Methodist Church on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 with Rev. John Benigas officiating. Visitation will be Monday, November 12, 2007 from 6-8 PM and Tuesday from 12-1 PM, both at the church. Interment will take place at Brookfield Twp. Cemetery in Brookfield, Ohio.
