William W Cavender

May 15, 1929 — November 9, 2014

William (Bill) Wayne Cavender, Sr., 85, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday evening, November 9, 2014, with is loving family at his side. Bill was always known as "Pup" to his family and friends and lived a loving and fulfilling life. Bill was born May 15, 1929, in Warren, Ohio, a son of the late John and Bertha (Stiver) Cavender, and was a lifelong Warren area resident. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country during the Korean War from 1950 1952. Bill retired in 1990 from WCI Steel (formerly Republic Steel & LTV Steel) where he worked throughout the plant as a well respected electrician and member of the USW Local 1375. He was also a member of the Old Erie #3, Commandry, Council, Chapter and the Order of the Eastern Star # 80. Bill had been a member of the Central Christian Church on East Market Street in Warren, Ohio where he enjoyed the music and worship. He was an avid sports enthusiast. You would find Bill in his chair yelling at the television set during a game of football or baseball. He was a die-hard Yankee's fan and didn't miss a televised game! Pup was a real joker and loved to tease his family and friends if he teased us, we knew he loved us! Bill leaves his beloved wife and soul-mate of 60 years, Helen Jane Schell Cavender, of Warren, Ohio, whom he married February 6, 1954. He also leaves a brother, Robert Cavender of Warren, sister-in-law Betty (Cookie) Schell-Puglia (Lee) of New Hampshire and two children, William "Bill", Jr. of Mecca, and Michael of Warren. Additionally, Pup had two beloved granddaughters, Elizabeth (James) McBride and Jessica Cavender (who helped to care for Pup in these later months), as well as three great grandchildren (Kelsie, Austin, and Victor), and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Maude Sullivan and a brother Lex Cavender. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 PM, with an Easter Star and Masonic Service to be held at 7:30, at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel, 180 Garfield Dr. Warren, OH 44483. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at the funeral home, with an additional calling hour prior to the funeral.
