Private funeral services were held at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on October 2, for Alvira M Serluco, who passed away September 28,2023, a month short of her 100th birthday. The only child of Francesco and Gina D'Altorio Sarrocco, Alvira was born October 31,1923 in Campbell, OH where she resided most of her life. She was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University. A life member of the Ohio Education Association, National Education Association, and the Mahoning County Retired Teachers Association, Alvira was also a recipient of the Martha Holden Jennings Outstanding Teacher Award. She was a long-time member of St. Lucy Church along with several other senior organizations. Besides teaching, Alvira will be remembered for her excellent cooking and baking skills, her abundant words of wisdom, and strong demeanor. She was known for welcoming her family and many friends into her home as well as making memories while traveling frequently with them over the years. She made an impact on so many during her long life and will be dearly missed.

Her husband, John Serluco, whom she married in 1946, passed away in 1954. She is survived by their son Anthony (Donna) Serluco, granddaughters Gina (Andrew) Brown and Christa Serluco, and great-granddaughter Mirabella Brown.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hampton Woods and Hospice of the Valley for their care and support during the last years of Alvira's life. A scholarship will be established at Campbell Memorial to benefit a graduating senior pursuing a degree in education.
