Betty Arlene VanDervort, 82 of Bristolville, died Friday, March 28, 2014, at Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. She was born October 18, 1931 in Southington, the daughter of the late Merlin Ellis and Gladys Leona Mobley Barber. She had been a lifetime area resident. Betty was a 1949 graduate of Bristolville High School. She first worked at Packard Electric as a keypunch operator. She then worked for many years at the family business, Bristolville Oil and Gas and then at Cook's Market in Bristolville. Betty was a member of the North Bristol Christian Church, a 68 year member of Bristol Grange, a member of the Bristol Historical Society, the North Bristol Cemetery Assoc. and the Order of the Eastern Star Alpha Chapter No. 44 in West Farmington and had served as Mother Advisor of West Farmington Chapter of Rainbow Girls. She was an avid Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers fan and enjoyed Ohio State Men's Basketball. Betty is survived by one daughter, Sharyn L. VanDervort of Heath, OH with whom she had made her home; one son, Lynn S. (Beth) VanDervort of Alexandria, OH; two granddaughters, Darcy and Dana VanDervort and one grandson, Brett VanDervort. Her husband, Leonard Scott VanDervort, whom she married January 19, 1952 preceded her in death April 16, 1983. One brother, Harold Barber also preceded in death. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
