Dorothea Louise Snowden, 82 of Cortland passed away peacefully, at her home, on October 5, 2015 at 2:25 pm, with her family and Cross Road Hospice by her side. Dorothea was born October 10, 1932 in Clarksburg, PA, a daughter of the late William and Georgina (Whittaker) Eakins Dorothea was a 1950 graduate of Braceville High School. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. Dorothea was a very active person who loved being out and about; she would make trips to Mountaineer Casino, play bingo at various churches, bowl on a league, and play yahtzee. Her favorite past time was watching dance competitions all over the United States, and stoning dance costumes for competition. She will be sadly missed by her children; Gena Kuhns of Cortland, Charles (Barbara) Snowden of Warren, Dotsy Snowden of Cortland, Herbert (Gayle) Snowden Jr. of Vienna, and Margaret (Randy) Horner of Cortland. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 21 great- grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild; a brother Evan Eakins, of Cortland and a sister, Delores Beckner, of Braceville. Beside her parents, Dorothea was preceded in death by her husband, of 40 years, Herbert Lee Snowden Sr. They were married on March 29, 1951, and Herbert passed away on May 18, 1991. Five sisters, four brothers, and a son-in- law Eugene Kuhns, also preceded Dorothea in death. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 12, 2015 at 12pm at Cortland Christian Church, 153 Grove Drive, Cortland, OH 44410, with Pastor Don Barnes officiating. Family and friends may call from 10 am to the time of the services on Monday. Care was entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel.
