Dorothy A. Carano Brown

February 6, 1929 — January 18, 2024

Austintown

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Dorothy A. Carano Brown, who passed away on January 18, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on February 6, 1929, in Hubbard Ohio, she grew up in Hubbard and later moved to Austintown. She was a dedicated and loving wife to her late husband, Hubert A. Brown Jr. and a devoted mother to her children Leslie A. Brown, Erica E. Brown Fire (Patrick), Lydia M Brown Payton (Michael) and Hubert A Brown III (Sara).

Dorothy lived a long and fulfilling life. She graduated from Hubbard High School and she enjoyed attending many college courses at Youngstown State University later in life. She was the ACLD Learning Center bookkeeper for 35 years. What she loved most about her job was the time she spent interacting with the children and parents. She was an active member of the P. Buckley Moss Society and was instrumental in bringing P. Buckley Moss to the school to work with the students.

Dorothy was an avid card player and looked forward to her Friday night family Texas Hold ‘Em games. She loved to travel and enjoyed trips with her family. She also loved to bake and made the best birthday cakes. Dorothy enjoyed crocheting and was an excellent seamstress who made her daughter’s wedding gown. She loved challenging crossword puzzles and for years she loved playing Words With Friends on her iPad.

Dorothy was a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren, Anika Payton Rodriguez (Darius), Sunday M. Payton, and Jesse C. Fire (Charlotte). She particularly enjoyed the holidays when her grandchildren would help her bake pies. Dorothy’s grandchildren were the light of her life.

Dorothy was a kind and generous soul, always putting others’ needs before her own. Her love and compassion extended to all those who knew her, and she will be remembered for her generosity, her hospitality and her genuineness.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Dorothy is survived by many nieces and nephews as well as several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Archie Carano and Lena Sauline Carano, her brothers Bob Carano and Don Carano as well as her husband. In accordance with her wishes, a private funeral service was held for immediate family members at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to ACLD School and Learning Center in memory of Miss Dorothy.

Rest in peace, dear mother. You will forever be in our hearts and memories.
