Dorothy J. Smith

Services will be held 11 AM Friday at the Chapel in Berlin Center Cemetery for Dorothy J. Smith, 89, of Austintown who passed away Sunday morning in Briarfield at Ashley Circle Care Center. Dorothy was born February 7, 1920 in Warren Ohio the daughter of Wallace and Gertrude (Maurer) Carson. She was a homemaker, a nurse’s aid at the former Mahoning County Nursing Home, and a former member of Berlin Center United Methodist Church, as well as a social member of Newton Falls American Legion. Dorothy was also an avid Bingo Player. She lived in Dunellon FL, for 18 years until returning to the area in 2003. Her husband the late Harold E. Smith whom she married December 31, 1938, passed away May 15, 2002. Dorothy leaves four children; William (Janet) Smith of New York, Bernice Pyles of W. Va, Alfred (Sandy) Smith of Ellsworth, and Randy (Karen) Smith of Newton Falls, one brother; Bob (Leta) Carson Berlin Center, as well as seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Besides her husband Harold and parents, Dorothy is also preceded in death by one son Charles Smith, four brothers Charles, Dick, James, and Roy Carson, and one sister Bernice Hile. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery chapel from 10:30 until the time of the service on Friday.
