George Rea Orr, Jr.,93, of Beaver, PA entered the arms of his Lord on Thursday morning, November 21st, at the Windsor House Parkside Nursing Center in Columbiana, Ohio.
He was born February 9, 1931 in Beaver Falls, PA, a son of the late George R., Sr. and Margaret (Metzger) Orr, and dedicated himself to a life of quiet service.
In his professional occupation, he worked as an industrial engineer for Pittsburgh Forgings Company, Coraopolis, and finished his career at Hoffman Process, Sewickley. He was also the tax collector in White Twp, Beaver Falls for over two decades. Additionally, he served his country in the United States Army where he aided in the development of the Nike Hercules missile and Honest John rocket.
He married the former Kathryn "Kay" Follette on June 8, 1956. They shared 58 years of marriage and many happy memories together. She preceded him in death February 13, 2015.
George spent his life serving his community on many boards and organizations such as Beaver Falls Kiwanis, St. Mary's Episcopal and Trinity Anglican Vestry's, Carnegie Library Board, and Beaver Valley Community Concerts. He was happiest with his hands in the dirt and following his retirement he became a Master Gardener and could often be seen around town planting and tending to the trees as a member of the Beaver Tree Commission.
He is survived by his two children, Kathryn (Mark) Scheel, of Canfield, OH, and George R. "G.R." Orr III, of Beaver, PA. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Gretchen (Levi) McGee and Lydia Scheel; and a great-grandson, Jack McGee.
In addition to his wife and parents, George was preceded in death by a brother, William J. Orr, and a sister, Jean O. High.
The family wishes to thank Tony Cook for his extraordinary friendship over the past 82 years, and Caleb VanDyke for his many years of dedicated and compassionate care.
Services were private, and if memorial contributions are desired, please plant a tree in George's memory so that future generations may have shade.
Arrangements for Mr. Orr are being provided by the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel, 65 N. Broad St., Canfield.
