Gerd J. Schuetz, 82 of Canfield passed away early Tuesday morning, July 18th at his residence. Gerd was born April 11, 1941 in Lodz, Poland, a son of the late Rudolf and Wanda (Hermann) Schuetz. He immigrated to Colbitz, Germany in 1944 and came to this area in 1958. He graduated from South High School and was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Gerd served three years in Germany in the 9th Calvary. He was a machinist for General Motors at Packard Electric/Delphi Packard in Warren for 30 years, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed the outdoors and taking care of his garden. He looked forward to camping and fishing and most importantly, spending time with his family. Gerd leaves his wife, the former Katherine Kling, whom he married May 27, 1967; a daughter Christine (Brice) Harris of Boardman; two sons, Eric Schuetz of Canfield, Gary Schuetz of Toledo and three grandchildren, Gavin, Bryson and Shayne Harris. He also leaves his sister, Helga Schoenenberger of Toronto, Canada and a brother-in-law, Alex Zielke of Canfield. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margit Zielke. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 23rd at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 N. Broad Street, Canfield, with calling for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to Lutheran World Relief, give.lwr.org or to Ohio Environmental Council, theoec.org.
