Glenn W. Swab

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Niles for Glenn W. Swab, 93, who died Friday morning at Clare Bridge Cottage Nursing Center in Austintown. He was born November 7, 1916 in Falls Creek, PA, a son of William and Fannie Swab. He came to Warren as a child and moved to Niles in 1947. He made his living as a bricklayer for over 40 years before retiring in 1979. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WW II. For his military service he received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theatre Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and three Bronze Stars. He was a longtime and active member of the church. He was also a member of the Niles Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and the Eastern Star. He married the former Joan Tracy on April 9, 1939 and she preceded him in death February 20, 1991. He then married his second wife, the former Winifred Morgan on September 17, 1994 and was preceded in death February 24, 2008. He is survived by two daughters; Carol K. (Wilford) McCorkle of Somerset, PA and Judith L. (Walter) Bogden of Howland. He also leaves behind two granddaughters; Amy L. Tubbs of Hershey and Sherry L. Gregory of Cortland; three great grandsons; Timothy, Troy, and Carter Gregory; and two great granddaughters; Emily and Chloe Tubbs. Besides his two wives he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Swab and a sister, Ruth Britt. Friends may call for one hour prior to services from noon- 1pm Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church in Niles in Glenn’s memory. Arrangements are being handled by the Lane Funeral Home Niles Chapel.
