Harold Eugene “Ike” Schisler passed away on September 25, 2024, at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Margaret (Missik); parents Randall and Jennifer Schisler (Zaleski); father-in-law Paul McKnight, mother-in-law Caroline McKnight (Toth); and brother-in-law Robert E. Missik.
He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Thompson (John Reeks); sister-in-law Eugenia Missik; niece Monica Moran (Dominic Mendiola); great-nephew Michael Moran; great-nieces Madeline and Maria Metzbower; and cherished family friend Deb Alexander, as well as a circle of dear friends and community members.
Born and raised in North Jackson, Ike’s life was marked by resilience and determination. As a teenager, he faced a challenging year in a body cast due to a bone disorder -- but that didn’t stop him from running for class president, a move that earned him the nickname that would stick with him for life. Everyone liked Ike!
A skilled tradesman, Ike worked first at United Tool & Die in Salem, and later as a die maker for General Motors - Lordstown. His work ethic was rivaled only by his dedication to his lawn! Known for meticulous care of his landscaping, Ike found satisfaction in yardwork and pride in his well-kept home.
Ike spent several years coaching his daughter’s summer softball teams, passing on his values of hard work and persistence. He was previously active in the Lion’s Club, Argus Lodge #545, and was a proud union member. In retirement, Ike enjoyed the camaraderie of bartending at local banquet centers, where he was always the life of the party with stories to tell and a generous pour.
Though he faced many health challenges, he met them with resilience and stubborn determination. Ike will be remembered by many, and he will be sorely missed.
