J. Eugene Moherman

J. Eugene Moherman, 94, of North Jackson, died Saturday evening, December 10, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Eugene was a quiet, gentle man, born on the family farm in Jackson Township to Ward and Besse Wetzel Moherman on October 13, 1911. He was the great –great grandson of Frederick Moherman, one of the early pioneers of Austintown Township, who purchased property in Jackson Township in 1803. Eugene was a 1929 graduate of North Jackson High School. As a young man, he was employed by the Dollar Savings Bank in Niles. He also worked at the Ravenna Arsenal during World War II. In later years he and his father farmed the family land. As a founder of the Jackson Federal Credit Union, he was treasurer for many years. A member of the First Federated Church of North Jackson, he served as Sunday School Superin-tendent, deacon, elder and served on various boards. Eugene was a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite. In April he was honored for 65 years of service in the Niles McKinley Lodge. He was also a Trustee with the North Jackson Knights of Pythias. He volunteered as an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 85, was a member of the Jackson Citizen’s Association and the North Jackson Keenagers. In later years, he enjoyed gardening, especially growing dahlias, and became a student of piano at age 90. He leaves his wife of 65 years, the former Helen Baldwin; four daughters, Natalie Ann (Jerry) Dechant, of Diamond, Helen Jeanne (Rodney) Sudimak of North Jackson, Rosemary (John) Laughlin of Alliance, and Valerie Grace (Kevin) Toole of Pittsburgh; ten grandchildren: Shea (Amy) and Scott Sudimak, Natalie (Steve) Lewis, Blake Dechant, Jaimie, Amanda, and Jonathan Laughlin; and David, Brianne, Benjamin Toole, one very special great-grandson, Stephen Lewis; and a brother, Bruce. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel where friends may call from 4-8 Tuesday evening. Internment will be in Jackson Township Cemetery.
