James E. Garghill Jr., 87, of Warren died 11:50 AM Friday March 28, 2008 at St. Josephs Health Care Center following a lengthy illness. He was born Sept. 15, 1920 in Warren the son of James E. and Margaret (Kepler) Garghill Sr. A lifetime Warren resident Jim attended Warren schools and served in the US Army during WW II with the 805th Engineers Battalion. He received the America Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon w 2 bronze stars, the good conduct ribbon, the Meritorious Unit Award and the WW II Victory Medal. He enjoyed attending the reunions of his military unit. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and then for 37 years worked for American Welding Building products retiring in 1986 as lab superintendant in charge of product testing and development. Jim enjoyed reading, golf, and solving crossword puzzles. He was of the Lutheran faith. In 1986 he was preceded in death by his wife Anna (Rosenthal) Garghill whom he married June 30, 1947. He is survived by 4 children James B. Garghill of Oak Harbor, OH, Pamela (Robert) Hanna of Warren, Karen K. Garghill of Warren, Gary H. Garghill of Warren, 3 grandchildren Jeffrey Williams, Kimberly (Rob) Smith, Nicole Williams, and 3 great grandchildren Ariel, Aaron, and Jacob. He also leaves a sister Marjorie Akins of Warren, step grandchildren Pamela and Dale Cochrane of Akron, Rob and Diana Hanna of Champion, John and Marshanna Hanna of Port Washington, OH, step great grandchildren Roger and Ryland Reel of Akron, Taryn Hanna of Champion and a sister-in-law Sally Garghill of Niles, He was preceded in death by a brother William D. Garghill. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday April 1, 2008 at Roberts-Clark Chapel where friends will be received from 5-8 Monday. Interment will be in Crown Hill Burial Park where military rites will be observed. The family suggests material contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market St. Youngstown, OH 44512-2198.
