Mr. Jerald R. Mathew, 76, of Youngstown, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, August 8th at the Hospice House in Poland.
He was born July 18, 1948 in Philippi, WV, a son of the late Roy and Mardean (Herron) Mathew.
Jerry attended East High School in Youngstown and worked as a custodian for General Extrusions for 29 years, retiring in 2005.
He married the former Debbra A. Beemer on November 6, 1971. They shared 32 years of marriage and many happy memories together. She preceded him in death June 23, 2004.
Jerry was known as one of the kindest, gentlest people you would ever meet and he never knew a stranger. Crafts were one of his favorite hobbies. He was also an avid Elvis Presley fan and thoroughly enjoyed his music and singing karaoke. Strong in his faith and love for his Lord, Jerald attended the Boardman Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish Jerald’s memory are his children: Mark (Kim) Caruso, of Struthers, Lynn (Bob) Toomey, of Youngstown, Jerald (Lonnie) Caruso, of Vienna, Denise Caruso, of Mineral Ridge, and Diane (Mark) Lund, of Youngstown. He also leaves behind siblings, Alice Caruso, Gloria Schell, and Richard McCready, all of Youngstown; grandchildren, Michael (Jenn), Jessica (Andrew), Ashlie, Roberta (Frank), Joshua (Kasey), Christopher (Donielle), Mark Jr., and Joseph; numerous other grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially Carly and Erice “Tootsie whom he spent a great deal of time with; and his fiancée, Diana York, of Youngstown, with whom he made his home.
Besides his wife and parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his step-father, Earl McCready, Sr., a brother, Earl McCready, Jr., and his first wife, Margaret Endress.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 14th at the Boardman Baptist Church, 1207 Shields Rd., Youngstown, with Pastor Matt Flegal officiating.
Friends may call one hour prior to services from 10-11 AM Wednesday at the Boardman Baptist Church.
He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife in the Jackson Cemetery in Coitsville.
Arrangements for Mr. Mathew are being provided by the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown.
