JoAnn Brode 1945-2024

Boardman-JoAnn Brode, 78, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. JoAnn was born to adopted parents Simon and Verona Broolis on November 29, 1945 on the east side of Youngstown. She was a proud graduate of the Class of ‘63 at East High School.

JoAnn married Ronald Owen Brode on December 5, 1970. In 1978, they moved to Boardman where they raised their family. JoAnn worked various jobs during this time. Her favorite being a manager of Data Entry for The Tamarkin Company. She also enjoyed working as a prep chef with her sister, Barbara Damico, at The Boathouse in Boardman where they would find themselves in many fun flour fights. When her sister Tina Broolis was living, they had the best of times traveling to Las Vegas to play the slot machines. After her adoptive mother passed away, JoAnn researched her ancestry and found her birth family. Her great detective skills allowed her to meet with new siblings and she was given the name “Sherlock” by her late sister Patty Quinn.

JoAnn enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was always ready to watch a good Hallmark movie or read the latest Danielle Steel novel. JoAnn can be described as determined, devoted, selfless, and a giver. She leaves behind her husband, Ron, and three children, Christina (Jake Wertz) Danko, John Druzisky and Carie (Daniel) Watson and five grandchildren: Ashley Vaughan; Alexander, Owen and Lily Watson and John Druzisky Jr. She also leaves a sister, Joann Nicola, and many other relatives and friends that will mourn her loss. Even when times were tough, JoAnn was the anchor that kept many of us secure.

The family will receive family and friends on Friday, October 11, 2024 starting at 10:00 AM at Metro Assembly of God located at 2530 South Ave. in Youngstown, until the time of service at 11:00 AM.
