Lordstown- Memorial services will be held 11 AM Friday at the Lane Funeral Home-Mineral Ridge Chapel for John W. Platt, age 90 of Lordstown who died peacefully at his home Tuesday afternoon. John was born July 20, 1917 in Lordstown and was the son of the late Hayes and Cora (Brickley) Platt. His trade that he learned while in the U.S. Army led him to open his own business, John Platt Heating and Cooling Company which he operated until his retirement in 1997. He was a 70 year member of Lordstown Christian Church and enjoyed fishing, feeding the birds, camping, watching sports on TV in his recliner and eating Snickers Candy Bars. John served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945 where he served on the ground crew working on Aircraft repair. Along with his father-in-law, he built his own home. John leaves his high school sweetheart, the former Ardine Mansell whom he married September 4, 1940. He also leaves three sons, Ronald John (Carol) Platt of Newton Falls, L. Bruce (Prudy) Platt of Lordstown and Gary Richard “Dick” Platt of Lordstown. John leaves three grandchildren, Andrew (Theresa) Platt of Santa Clarita, Calif., Hayley Platt and Hobie Platt both of Lordstown and a great grandson Anderson John “A.J.” Platt. He was preceded in death by his parents, ten brothers and sisters and a son Raymond Thadd Platt. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10-11 Am Friday prior to the services.
