Services will be held 10:30 AM Monday in St. Mary’s Church, Mineral Ridge, for Joseph L. Petrosky, 87, of Niles who passed away Friday morning at St Joseph’s Health Center in Warren after a brief illness. Joseph was born November 4, 1919 in Heilwood, PA the son of Benjamin and Stella Putnicki Petrosky. When he was a small child the family moved to Warren, Ohio where he graduated from Warren G. Harding High School. At the age of 21, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps where he became a First Lieutenant. As a C-47 pilot, he flew 23 missions in the European Theatre during WWII. He retired in 1984 after 38 years of employment as manager of the City Loan and Savings Co. in Niles. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Mineral Ridge, where he was an usher and served as a councilman for many years. When a Niles businessman, he was active in the Niles Kiwanis Club. He was also a member of the Niles Knights of Columbus. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Kravec Petrosky; one daughter, Joan of Niles; three sons, Kenneth (Sharon) Petrosky of Severna Park, Maryland; Richard (DeOnne) Petrosky of Niles; and Gary (Mary) Petrosky of Crofton, Maryland. In addition he leaves four grandsons: Michael (Shannon) Petrosky, Gregory, Brian, and Eric Petrosky; one sister Sadie Bayowski of Lowellville; one brother, Eugene (Teresa) Petrosky of Champion; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Mary Bayowski and Clara Petrosky. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the Lane Funeral Home Mineral Ridge Chapel. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the building fund of St. Mary’s Church in Mineral Ridge.
