Judith L. Moran (Mawby)

Judith L. Moran (Mawby), 79, of Youngstown passed away quietly in her sleep on the night of August 5, 2024. She was born on January 4, 1945, at Warren City Hospital, the natural born daughter of the late Charles Mawby and Priscilla (Shewell) Mawby. Judy was raised in Canfield by her adoptive parents, the late Frederick Pershing and Dorothy (Bowen) Pershing on the family farm off South Turner Road. She is a graduate of Canfield High School, class of 1964.

Shortly after High School, Judy worked in the Nursing Aid Station at Idora Park, Amusement Park in Youngstown. She passed on her love of carnival rides and “Fair Fries” to her 6 children, 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren with many family trips to Geauga Lake, the Canfield Fair, and the Saint Christine’s Festival in Cornersburg.

Holidays were extraordinary events because of Judy who would decorate the yard with enough magic that traffic would begin to slow in front of her family home as gawkers drove by. Halloween was the season for lights, cobwebs and skeletons accompanied by spooky music and sound effects. Christmas meant more lights and an impressive collection of illuminated blow mold figures including Santa Claus and his reindeer, a Snowman, two toy soldiers and manger complete with the baby Jesus and three wise men. The Holiday magic would continue indoors with Thanksgiving turkey, homemade mashed potatoes and gravy, and pumpkin pie. There was always an extra plate for whoever stopped by, and many guests did indeed stop by.

There are nephews and nieces and cousins and second cousins, aunts and uncles, great aunts and great uncles. There are also sisters, a big brother and wonderful friends. So many have gone but those that remain will remember her fondly. To her grandchildren she is “gram”, to her children she is ‘Mom” or “Ma”, to Willie Nelson she is “my number one fan”.

Judy is survived by her children, Paul (Michelle) Kusic, Randy (Shannon) Kusic, Jamie (Leslie Turner) Kusic, Wendy (T.J.) Moran Fabian, Heather (Tom) Murnane and Jenny (Justin) Holdash; and her sister Patty (Carl) Goode. Besides her parents, Judy is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dennis Sheehan.

The children would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Addison Healthcare Center for the loving care of their mother and a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful sister Wendy for holding mom’s hand and comforting her thru some very long nights.

Friends and Family may call from 10am to 11am on Saturday August 24, 2024, at Lane Canfield Chapel in Canfield. A memorial service will follow starting at 11am.
