Julia K. (Kuhn) Johnson, age 95, of Bazetta Township died Tuesday afternoon, May 6, 2008, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren. The family is celebrating the wonderful life of their beloved mother and grandmother, Julia Johnson who began her life on earth on May 14, 1912. She was born in West Virginia the eldest child of the late Laszlo and Irma (Kish) Kuhn. Her family moved to Cortland when she was twelve. She showed her love of children by owning and operating the Elm Road Day Nursery in the 1950's. Later in life, she worked for Strouss at the Eastwood Mall. She was a member of Second Christian Church in Warren, where she taught Sunday school. She later joined Bazetta Christian Church in the 1960's. Julia enjoyed farming, gardening, sewing and embroidery. She loved to cook, especially for her family on holidays. She made the best Hungarian pastries and decorated many cakes over the years. She also had a soft spot for animals, breeding Himalayan cats and Shetland Sheep dogs. Julia was preceded in death in 1986 by her husband, Arthur Johnson, whom she married May 20, 1936. They shared almost fifty years of marriage. A son, Arthur C. Johnson died in 1976 and two brothers, Steve and Charles Kuhn and one sister, Helen Gedeon also have all preceded her in death. Julia will be remembered and cherished by her daughter, Karen Johnson of Bazetta Twp.; granddaughter, Christine (Luke) Lawhorn of Gallipolis, two grandsons, Arthur (Barb) Johnson of Orlando, Fla. and Joseph (Kristy) Johnson of Bazetta; five great grandchildren, John and Jeremy Lawhorn, Alexis and Danielle Johnson and Zane Johnson and one brother, Frank Kuhn of Williamsfield. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the noon funeral service at Bazetta Christian Church on Friday, May 9, 2008 with Pastor Paul Leone officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Cortland. Arrangements are by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Welfare League, 545 Brunstetter Road, Warren 44481 or to Shepherd of the Valley, the Shepherd's Foundation, 5525 Silica Road, Austintown, OH 44515.
