Lena Barbara Berecek of 110 Fredonia Rd., Greenville, PA, formerly of Vienna, Ohio, died Wednesday (12-28-2005) in Whitecliff Nursing Home, Greenville, after an extended illness. She was 94.
Mrs. Berecek was born in Farrell, PA on December 11, 1911, a daughter of Stephen and Barbara Mikulin.
She attended Brookfield High School and had worked as a cook for Cherry’s Restaurant, Niles, OH, retiring in 1977 after eight years. Previously she was employed at Raver’s Restaurant in Youngstown and was in business with her husband co-owning and co-operating Ohio Dairy, Brookfield, OH.
Her memberships included: former member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Vienna, OH; Paynes Corners Garden Club; Vienna Band Boosters; and she was a life member of the Vienna PTA.
Lena was well known for her wedding cakes.
Survivors include: 3 daughters, Eleanor Governor & her husband Jack, Violet Coe & her husband Roger, both of Cortland, OH, and Rosemarie Gibson & her husband Duane, Fountain Hills, AZ; 2 sons, Fredrick Berecek & his wife Bunny, Farmdale, OH, and James Berecek & his wife Jacey, Centerville, OH; 25 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Anthony M. Berecek, whom she married 12-11-1929, he died, 2-13-1966; her son, Thomas Berecek, her great-grandson, Michael Durst; and her sisters, Mary Horzich, Caroline Vecheren, Katherine Uroseva, and Anna Mishorich.
Private Funeral Services will be held Tuesday (1-3-2006) at Madasz Funeral Chapel, Brookfield, with Rev. Frank Zanni, Pastor. Calling hours will be private also. Burial will be in Brookfield Township Cemetery.
