Funeral services will be held at 10am Monday at the First Federated Church in North Jackson for Loy R. Metzler, 91, who died Tuesday afternoon at his residence. He was born April 4, 1919 in Youngstown, a son of Simon P. and Nettie (McClain) Metzler, and he resided in this area all of his life. He was a 1937 graduate of Jackson Milton High School. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WW II. He worked for the U.S. Government as a Safety Director with the Department of the Army for several years before retiring and he had worked more recently as a courier for the Mahoning County Board of Education for ten years. He was a longtime member of the church. He was also a member of the Jackson Milton School Board for sixteen years, he was a Milton Township trustee for four years, and he loved taking boat rides on the lake. He married the former Betty J. Keck on September 6, 1941 and she preceded him in death May 26, 2010. He is survived by two children; Barbara Adair of Columbus and William Metzler of Lake Milton; two brothers; Clyde Metzler of Lake Milton and Glenn Metzler of Miami, FL; a grandson, Brad (Kristin) Adair of Westerville; and a great grandson, Nicholas. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by seven brothers; Paul, Nicholas, Charles, Gilbert, Harold, Frank, and Brant Metzler and two sisters; Grace Miller and Viola Norman. Friends may call for one hour prior to services from 9-10am Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Federated Church in Loy’s memory. Arrangements are being handled by the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel.
