North Jackson, OH-Margaret Ivy Kuhns Garritano “Marge”, 88; was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Thursday, February 8, 2024 at the Hospice House in Poland, Ohio.
She was born the daughter of the late Merle Charles Kuhns and Helen Baringer Kuhns-McGirr on May 9,1935, in Lake Milton, Ohio.
Margaret was united in marriage to William T. Garritano, with whom she shared 63 wonderful years.
Margaret was a homemaker for many years and loved devoting her time to her church family and was a devout Catholic and a member of St. James Church for more than 63 years. She was instrumental in the forming of the St. James Altar and Rosary Society, now known as Our Lady of the Lakes Women’s Guild. Marge was the coordinator for special dinners and bereavement luncheons for over 45 years at her church.
The simplest pleasures brought great joy to Marge's life. Her personality and kind heart were contagious to everyone she met. She found happiness in her many activities which included watching her soaps; Y&R and Bold and The Beautiful, gardening, floral arranging, playing cards, taking photos, decorating for all holidays, baking, cooking, going to bingo at the Saxon Club, traveling, bowling, getting her hair done, canning, crafts, sewing, being outdoors, and camping. Her favorite times and memories were social gatherings with family and friends. She participated in many community activities and clubs, as a member the Austintown Eagles Club, Saxon Club, North Jackson Keenagers, Red Hats, and troop leader of the Girl Scouts, and Camp Fire.
Margaret leaves behind her to cherish her memory, her husband, William, whom she married December 29, 1960, 2 daughters, Victoria Beda of North Jackson, Nicol (Bryan) Budrovici of Hubbard, her 4 grandchildren, Nicholas Dierkes of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Benjamin Dierkes of Tucson, Arizona and Giana and Roman Budrovici of Hubbard, Ohio. Sisters; Maxine Swisher, Merle Charlotte Garritano, Linda (Mark) Reeder, and brother, Ron Kuhns. Sister-in-law, Jackie Garritano, Cathy (Robert) Fouch. Brother-in-law; Thomas Garritano and many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents Merle Charles Kuhns and Helen Kuhns McGirr; her father-in-law; Samuel E. Garritano; her sisters, Donna Allcorn and Doris Mix, brothers-in-law, Joseph Garritano, Samuel E. “Bud” Garritano, Jr., Edsel “Pete” Allcorn, Richard “Dick” Swisher; Sister-in-laws, Delores Garritano, and Jill Kuhns.; and nephew Charles J. Crites and niece, Deborah Giebel.
The family would like to extend their warmest appreciation to the staff of The Hospice House for the care and compassion given to Margaret during her final days and would like to request any memorial contributions to be made to in her honor to St. James Church in North Jackson.
Friends and family may gather from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Lane Funeral Home in Austintown, Ohio and 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Friday February 16, 2024, prior to an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by the Very Reverend David W. Merzweiler at St. James Church, 50 Rosemont Road, North Jackson, OH.
Burial will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield, OH.
