Margaret Whitacre

Margaret went up the stairs to heaven to meet her Lord and Savior on June 20, 2024. She was born on August 26, 1926 at her home on Neilsen Avenue in Brownlee Woods. She was the second child and daughter to Naomi Kathryn Funk and Fred Charles Bailey.

She attended Jackson school from K-4th grade when the family moved to the east side where she attended Lincoln school and East High, graduating in June 1944. She then entered Youngstown Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1952 and went on to further her education by receiving a B.S. and M.S. in elementary education at YSU.

She was active in community organizations, serving as president of Protestant Family Service, Youngstown Hospital, General Duty Nursery, Early Birds Bowling League, Mahoning Valley United Methodist Women, Lockwood United Methodist Women and Co-Chair of the RN Interest Group.

Margaret leaves behind to carry on her memory, her son David Whitacre. 

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Whitacre Sr.; her sons, Donald Whitacre and Skipper Whitacre; a sister Mary Whitacre, and a brother Fred Bailey.

Friends and family may call from 10am to 11am on Tuesday July 2nd at Mill Creek Community Church, 4750 Lockwood Blvd, Youngstown, Ohio 44511, with a service to follow. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in Margarets name to Angels For Animals or Animal Charity.
