Marguerite Scherer

Cortland Marguerite "Peg" Scherer, 88, a lifelong resident of Cortland, passed away Thursday morning October 29, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown. Peg was born on August 19, 1927 in Cortland, OH, a daughter of the late Douglas and Rena (Burlingham) Button. She was a 1945 graduate of Cortland High School. She was employed as a Teller and Supervisor at the former Union Savings and Trust / Bank One/ Chase Bank in Warren, OH for 27 years, until she retired on August 19, 1989. She was a member of the Cortland United Methodist Church and member of the Cortland Eastern Star, Opal Chapter. She also spent her time volunteering at St. Joseph's Hospital in Warren, OH. Peg will be deeply missed by her loving children, Douglas R. (Christine) Scherer of Cortland, OH and Shana A. Scherer of Warren, OH; her two grandchildren Jeffrey (Tiffany) Scherer and Danielle (Russel) Schmidt; and four grea-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pharis E. Scherer, whom she married on September 12, 1947 and passed away on January 18, 1991; and her two sisters Virginia Daugherty and Dorothy B. Boldrini. Funeral services will be held for Peg on Sunday November 1, 2015 at 4:00PM at Lane Family Funeral Homes Shafer-Winans Chapel in Cortland. Friends and family may call from 2:30-4:00PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna, OH, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
