Martin A. Rathburn, age 74, of Johnston Twp., Ohio, died Monday, September 3, 2007, at Residence. He was born on June 4, 1933 in Kinsman, OH., the son of the late Brice M. Rathburn and the late Edna L (Moore) Rathburn. Mr. Rathburn was a veterian of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Johnston Federated United Methodist Church, the Cortland Moose Lodge, Ashtabula Antique Tractor Association and the Farm Bureau. He was a lifetime area resident and had worked all of his life as both a dairy farmer and a grain farmer. As a younger man, he enjoyed bowling with his wife. As he grew older, he enjoyed watching sports, particularly the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. His wife, Juanita L. (Rice) Rathburn, whom he married on March 3, 1962, preceded him in death on March 20, 2002. He is survived by three sons, Bruce (April) Rathburn of Johnston Twp., George (Debbie) Rathburn of Johnston Twp., and Chuck Rathburn of Painesville, OH. One daughter, Carol Anderson of Johnston Twp., and one brother, Virgil (Joanne) Rathburn of Mecca Twp. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Smith and a brother, Wayne Rathburn. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel, 164 North High Street, Cortland, Ohio, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, September 5, 2007. Funeral service will be at the funeral home at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 6, 2007. Interment will be at Johnston Twp. Cemetery.
