Nicholas "Nick" Bartolin Jr. of Masury, OH, died on Wednesday (09-17-2008) at Sharon Regional Hospital. He was 88 years old. Mr. Bartolin was born in Masury, OH on November 9th, 1919, a son of Nicholas and Katherine (Stuparic-Janis) Bartolin Sr. Nick served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. His decorations and citations include: the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal. Nick married the former Josephine Zamaria on December 31, 1944. Together they shared 32 years of marriage. Mr. Bartolin worked for G.A.T.X. for 33 years and also retired from the Brookfield Township Volunteer Fire Department 1981 after serving 8 years as Fire Chief and over 16 years as a Volunteer. After his retirement, he remained an honorary member of the fire department and also enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, feeding wild birds, gardening and especially playing with his beloved dog "Tag". Nick is survived by his son, Nick A. Bartolin III and his wife Vicki of Masury, OH; his daughter Joanne Brest and her husband Butch of Naperville, IL; a brother Harry Bartolin of Palm Bay, FL; six grandchildren Kim, Jeff, Nick, Jennie, Sally and David; and by nine great-grandchildren Alexandra, Gabriella, Josephina, Clayton, Hunter, Nicholas, Victoria, A.J., and Ashton He was preceded in death by wife who preceded him on September 17, 1977; two brothers Steve and John Bartolin; and three sisters Lena Bartolin, Mary Kostoff, and Mildred Shay. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday September 20th, 2008 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, with Rev. Frank Zanni, Pastor. Calling hours will be Friday from 5-8 PM at the Lane Funeral Homes Madasz Chapel, Brookfield. Burial will be in Brookfield Township Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions can be made to Celtic Hospice or the American Cancer Society, Brookfield Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Brookfield Fallen Firefighters Foundation or to the donors favorite charity in Nick's honor.
