A celebration of Life will be held 3 PM Monday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel for Paul Leonard Mallery, who passed away Saturday morning at Assumption Village. Paul was born May 29, 1914 in Hubbard a son of the late Carl Allen and Anna Mae (Rutter) Mallery. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Paul retired in 1990 from the Mahoning County Courts where he worked as a jury commissioner and bailiff for all seven judges. He was an original member of the Crime Lab of the Youngstown Police Department, where he began as a patrolman and then was in charge of their firing range, retiring after 27 years. He was also an agent with the humane society for two years. He hand loaded his own ammunition and was a recognized marksman, earning several trophies. Paul was of the Baptist Faith and a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Youngstown. He was a life member of the Crime Clinic of Greater Youngstown, where he was past president, a member of Disabled American Veterans, AARP Canfield, and a retired life member of the NRA. Paul loved boating, photography, firearms and traveling, but most importantly was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife the former Yolonda Gish, whom he married August 3, 1960; three children: Mitchell (Carol Ann) Bowyer of E. Stroudsburg, PA, Donna Oakley of St. Augustine, FL, and Rebecca (Kevin) Conner of Greenville, NC; eight grandchildren: eleven great grandchildren; and a niece Dorothy Jane (Tom) Davis of Portsmouth, RI. Besides his parents, Paul is preceded in death by a brother Roger Mallery, and a sister Virginia Samuel. The family would like to thank the staff at Assumption Village for excellent care provided to Paul. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in Paul's name.
