Ralph A. Guesman, 83, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday night, Jan. 13, 2013 at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on Nov. 11, 1929 in Fowler, Ohio to the late Albert Price Guesman and Marcella Heltzel Guesman. He was the retired Superintendent of Streets and Utilities for the City of Cortland. Ralph was a retired Volunteer Captain of the Cortland Volunteer Fire Department. He served his country in the USAF as an Airmen 2nd class during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Cortland Fire Fighters Association and a member of the American Waterworks Association. Ralph enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, road trips and delighted in his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Louise Moyers Guesman whom he married on Feb. 21, 1952. Ralph is also survived by his 3 children, son Ralph E. (Kate) Guesman of Cortland, daughter, Deborah S. Guesman Goldner of Cortland and son Christopher L. (Sherry) Guesman of Cortland. Surviving also is his brother, Harlan E. (Lily) Guesman of Cortland. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren : Kelly(Jason) Fried of Peninsula, Ohio, Kristy (Joe) Johnson of Cortland, Kara (Shaun) Totten of Warren, Ralph Adam Guesman of Akron, David(Stacy) Goldner of Cortland, Michael(Charity) Goldner of St. Peter, MN, Brian Goldner of Warren, Jessica and Christopher Guesman of Warren. Ralph will also be missed by 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ralph Michael Guesman. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 6PM-8PM at the Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland. Funeral services will be on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 11AM at the funeral home where the family will again receive friends one hour prior to the service.
