Services will be 1:30 PM Monday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel for Robert C. Byers Sr., 82, of Canfield who passed away Friday morning in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Robert was born October 23, 1924 in Canfield the son of Charles and Nila (Waters) Byers. He was a life long area resident and a member of Canfield United Methodist Church and served in the Army Air Force during WWII. Robert retired in 1981 after 27 years of service form the Canfield Police Department. He began his career as an officer in 1954, served as acting chief from 1963 to 1965 and served as full chief from 1966 until his retirement. He was a member of the Honorary Chief of Police Association, the Ohio Police Chief’s Association, the American Legion Canfield Post, and enjoyed traveling. His wife of more than 57 years, the former Elizabeth “Betty” Eperjese whom he married September 13, 1947 passed away March 24, 2005. Robert leaves two children; Frances Langdon of Salem, and Robert C. (Linda) Byers Jr. of Girard, six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren. Besides his wife Betty, Robert is preceded in death by one son Ronald. Family and friends may call from 5 to 6 PM Sunday and again from 12:30 until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests material tributes take the form of donation to the DARE program with the Canfield Police Department in Roberts name.
