Robert Maxwell Laird, Sr., age 83 of Warren passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown with his family by his side. He was born on October 16, 1940, in Mansfield, OH to the late Robert Wylie and Florence Elizabeth (Kew) Laird.

 

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was born in Mansfield. He later moved to Newark where he attended Newark High School and graduated with the class of 1958. He attended The Ohio State University and graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1963. He moved to Warren in 1965 where he would meet his wife Irma Valerio who he would marry on February 24, 1968, at St. Mary’s Church in Warren, OH.

 

He built a reputable career in the funeral industry serving his apprenticeship with Hillis Funeral Home in Zanesville, Ohio. He was a former partner with Robert H. Roberts-Clark Memorial Home, Inc., Director at Reese Wynn Winyard McDermott Laird Funeral Home in Niles, Funeral Director/Embalmer for 50 years, retiring in 2005 from Lane Funeral Home Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, Ohio.

 

He was a member of Saints Mary and Joseph Parish, Warren, OH and the Knights of Columbus #620. He was a former member of the Optimist Club and Mobile Meals as an honorary board member, Warren Kiwanis Club, Niles Kiwanis Club where he was president and served on the board of directors, Elks Club #295, and the Ohio Funeral Directors Association.

 

Bob enjoyed traveling with his wife Irma, especially to visit their eldest son in South Dakota, their trip to Italy to visit her hometown of Carovilli, and trips to Vermont to visit family and make maple syrup. He enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s sporting events, like football, basketball, and karate practices, school plays and concerts to hear his granddaughter sing. Bob shared secret trips to Dairy Queen with Landen and Saturday morning coffee with the guys. He was an avid Ohio sports fan, Go Bucks! He was a PB&J Connoisseur. He enjoyed spending time outdoors reading, smoking his pipe, and talking to neighbors. He enjoyed retirement with his grandchildren and spending time with his family.

 

He is preceded in death by his son, Michael David Laird who passed on December 15, 1991 and his parents. 

 

He is survived by his wife Irma (Valerio) Laird; children, Robert Maxwell Laird Jr. of Rapid City, SD, Jennifer Marie Laird of Warren, OH, David Anthony (Julianne) Laird of Warren, OH; grandchildren, Landen Greenwalt, Madison Laird “His Pumpkin”, and Ian Greenwalt “His Little Buddy.”

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Trumbull Mobile Meals or to the donor’s favorite charity. 

Calling hours will be held 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM Friday, May 3, 2024, at Lane Funeral Home, Roberts-Clark Chapel 180 Garfield Dr. NE Warren, OH 44483. Funeral Mass will be held 1:00 PM Friday, May 3, 2024, at St. Mary and St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery.
