Robert Lee Armstrong I, 88, of Southington passed away at his daughters’ home at 3:47PM, December 28, 2007. Bob was born the son of the late Edward M. and Elizabeth (Nelle) Armstrong on December 22, 1919 in Warren. Bob was a lifetime area resident, retiring from Copperweld Steel in 1981 after working for 41 years as a locomotive engineer. Bob served in World War II as a paratrooper for the Army. Bob enjoyed woodworking, traveling, fishing, and praying. Bob was a devoted member of the Southington Christian Church. He was known as “The Prayer Warrior” and also for his gentle strength; most of all he enjoy spending time with his children and grandchildren. Bob is survived by his seven children; Deloris Carr of Bradenton, Fl.; Robert Armstrong II of Niles; Debra ( Larry “Hawk”) Bailey of Hickory, N.C.; Ted (Marcia) Armstrong of Leavittsburg, Sharon (Tim) O’Malley of Niles; Paul (Karen) Armstrong of Southington, and S. Alan (Jerilynn) Armstrong of Howland; 29 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild. Also surviving him are his two foster children; Charlotte Gilligan and Penny Taylor. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Deloris Morrow Armstrong, whom he married June 16, 1941, together they shared 53 years of marriage. Also preceding him in death is a daughter Margaret Taylor and a great-grandson Craig Butler. The family will be receiving friends from 5 – 8PM Tuesday January 1, 2008 at the Southington Christian Church. The Rev. Randall Riley will conduct a service on Wednesday January 2, 2008 at 10AM at the church. Burial will take place at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Champion Township following the service. In lieu of flowers the family has asked the material contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation 3695 Boardman – Canfield Rd 301B Canfield, Ohio 44406, MVI Hospice 4891 Belmont Ave. Youngstown, Ohio 44505, or SCOPE Harbor Adult Day Care 309 N. Park Ave Warren, Ohio 44481. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Roberts – Clark Funeral Chapel in Warren.
