Robert P. Kamenitsa

December 5, 1929 — November 14, 2022

After a full life, Robert “Bob” Kamenitsa, 93, passed away November 14, 2022 at Brookdale Memory Care in Austintown, where he had resided since 2017. Born on December 5, 1929 in Youngstown, Bob was the son of Tom and Irene (Costello) Kamenitsa. He graduated from South High School in 1948, and became a lifelong Canfield resident. Following graduation, Bob joined the United States Air Force. A member of the 364th Bombardment Squadron, he proudly served from 1951 to 1955, and was stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida. Over the years, he attended several reunions with members of his unit. After his military service, Bob attended Youngstown State University until he was hired by Ohio Bell Telephone Company. He began in an entry level position; later he was promoted to a supervisory position which he held until his retirement 34 years later. Bob enjoyed gardening and attending the various activities of his children and grandchildren, such as school plays, musicals, horse shows, and athletic events. In his later years, Bob was an avid YSU football fan; his Kam’s Korner tailgates at home games were a true highlight of his life. He was also enthusiastic about the ritual celebrating of the patron saint of Albania with his cousins and their spouses. Bob was active in his community as a member of the Ohio Bell Pioneers Club, the Canfield Athletic Boosters, a board member of the Tri-Country Credit Union, and co-chair of the 1976 Bicentennial Canfield Fourth of July Parade. Additionally, he was a trustee, a member of the D&D Sunday school class, and a volunteer in many areas for his church. To cherish his memory he leaves his wife of 25 years, Diane Kamenitsa; his children Robin (Scott) Moser, Susan (Rich) Kunkle, Tom (Julie) Kamenitsa, and Lynn Kamenitsa (Jon Hale); grandchildren Jason Reitmann, Scott (Tessa) Kamenitsa, Maggie Kamenitsa (fiancé Ryan Burton), Vade Kamenitsa-Hale, and Nellie Kamenitsa-Hale; great-grandchildren Thomas and Joey Kamenitsa; step-daughter Kristina (Eric) Wintersteller and their daughter Elise. Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, and mother of his children, Margaret “Peg” Kamenitsa; his parents; his siblings William (Maxine) Kamenitsa, Fran (Tom) Kamperman, and Pauline Kamenitsa; grandson Justin Reitmann. Calling hours will be held from 10-11 a.m. on December 10, 2022 at Western Reserve United Methodist Church (4580 Canfield Road, Canfield, OH 44406) and will be followed by a memorial service at 11:30. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that any material donations be made to the church in Bob’s memory, or a charitable organization of your choosing.
