Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m Monday at Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 West Main St., Canfield for Walter Lee Baker, 88 of Canfield who died early Thursday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Walter was born September 7, 1923 in Alliance, Ohio, a son of the late Clyde and Myrtle Hoskinson Baker. He attended Minerva High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving as a gun crewman and coast artillery. He retired as a state boiler inspector for the State of Ohio where he was employed for 20 years Walter was a member of Canfield Presbyterian Church, the Argus Lodge #545 F & AM, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Tadmore Shrine of Akron and the Aut Mori Grotto. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed woodworking and travelling. He leaves his wife, the former Mabel Roach whom he married June 27, 1945; his son David A. (Suzanne) Baker of Canfield and his daughter, Vicky L. (Bob) Barson of Canton; 2 grandchildren, Kristin (Jason) Franklin and Megan Penland and 3 great-grandchildren, Tori, Taylor and Rylea and a sister, Pearl Ray of Carrollton, Ohio and step-grandhildren, John Thomas, Angela Thomas and Marlena Thomas. Besides his parents, Walter was preceded in death by a sister, Rosella Walker. Friends may call on Monday for one hour prior to the services at the church. The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to the memorial fund of Canfield Presbyterian Church.
